Emma performance

Humanosh Foundation is a partner of the play "EMMA" - A theatrical journey through the history of migration and integration

Our foundation is honored to be a partner of the play "Emma", which is the fourth work by Belarusian playwright and director Mikita Ilinchik in Poland. The text of this play deals with the problem of Eastern migrants and their integration into Western European society, conflict of values and symbiosis of cultures. Migrants often face prejudice, discrimination and violence, or simply do not fit into the new order of life in Europe. The authors attempt to portray these issues through the story of the title character, Emma, an immigrant from Belarus who runs a successful construction company in Warsaw that employs refugees from the eastern borderlands.

The play also features other characters, such as the young Polish man Jan, who bonds with Emma and becomes embroiled in illegal migrant import business. The play also touches on the story of Emma's child who is considering gender reassignment, which causes consternation among those with conservative views.

The concept of the play is based on the idea of "profit in wartime," referring to the play "Mother Courage" by Bertolt Brecht. The author wants to create a text and performance that deals with this theme and is related to real events of our time. Although political and social themes provide the background for the main story, the project aims to provide a deeper understanding of the characters and their transformation.
The creators of the project, a Belarusian team in cooperation with Polish actors, hope that the performance will contribute to social dialogue and a better understanding of the topic of immigration in Poland. They plan to continue cooperation between Belarusian theater artists and Polish institutions in the future.

Mikita Ilinchik, a Belarusian playwright and director, is the author of the play's text. Alexandr Adamau, set designer, and Sara Tokina, producer and curator, are responsible for other aspects of the project's execution. Aliaksandra Kononchenka, a photographer and video artist, and actors Anita Sokolovskaya, Maciej Łączynski and Elzbieta Zajko are also involved in the performance.
